The International Bible Training Centre (IBTC), which initially started at Ayobo, Iyana Ipaja, present Alimosho L.G.A in Lagos state Nigeria, is an arm of the Deeper Christian Life Ministry, set up for the training of ministers and Christian workers from all Christian bodies within and outside Nigeria.
“Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.”
The institution was established in Ayobo, Lagos the headquarters of DCLM in 1980 and ran for three consecutive years between 1980 and 1982. It offered a full-time Certificate Course in Theology. The centre started with 38 pioneer students. However, by the end of 1983, after producing three sets of students, the centre was closed down.
Thereafter, the need to produce trained hands for the work of the young ministry, which was already expanding fast, arose, and since it was a bit difficult getting students to enroll on a full-time basis. The ministry decided to commence a part-time programme to enable interested Christian workers to take advantage of this unique opportunity.
This part-time programme was named Short-Term Ministerial Course (STMC). It was arranged to run during the mid-year long vacation. The essence was to provide capable hands to take charge of campuses all over the country. The STMC as well as the full-time programme earlier run were co-educational.
From 1984 to 2001 when the Certificate programme stopped-18 years in all, the facility-IBTC was used mainly for religious gathering-retreats and conferences. It was during this hiatus that a financial institution was established with the same acronym-IBTC, which meant Investment Banking and Trust Company.
IBTC IBADAN CAMPUS
In 2001, Ayobo was relieved from hosting IBTC and a multi-campus system was introduced. In Nigeria, six campuses were established in Abuja, Enugu, Ibadan, Jos Kaduna, and Port-Harcourt while Ghana and Cameroon started the programme later. The one-session certificate remained a full-time course with each campus introducing a two-year part-time course, though retaining the same syllabus. However, the study of Latin and Greek done at Ayobo was excluded in the multi-campus curriculum. In all, the syllabus and the examination papers are the same. In October 2001, the South West Campus started in Ibadan at Deeper Life Campground KM 10, Ibadan-Oyo Expressway, Oyo State.
IBTC ENUGU CAMPUS
IBTC Enugu Campus kicked off in 2001 at the same time with the other campuses in Abuja, Jos, Kaduna, Ibadan, Port Harcourt, Cameroon, and Ghana. It was located at the Enugu Deeper Life Headquarters, 3D Ilukwu Street, Asata, Enugu until around May 2010 when it was moved to its present location Deeper Life Camp Ground, Enugu Naira Triangle, along Enugu- Abakaliki Road.
